Welcome, comrades! Meet Russian Subway Dogs! We have done extensive, totally legal research in order to fine tune this chaotic arcade-simulation for what it's like to scavenge for food from Russian commuters. Surviving isn't easy when you are dodging volatile vodka, rival dogs, and the rare and dangerous Subway Bear!

  • A new game from the creators of They Bleed Pixels.
  • Inspired by real life stray dogs who’ve learned to navigate Moscow’s subway system!
  • Take on Campaign Mode with dozens of levels and over 100 unique challenges from your boss kitty: The Proletaricat.
  • Highly re-playable Endless Mode with online leaderboards (Steam only, see notes below) and a score-driven difficulty algorithm that keeps each round fresh!
  • Featuring detailed pixel art of Moscow’s world famous, ornately decorated subway stations.
  • Play as your favourite animals from other indie games and comics (full list below!)
  • From fire and ice to toxic chocolate and cooking wildlife for food, Russian Subway Dogs is full of simulated systems to discover and exploit!
  • Original Soundtrack by Peter Chapman aka COINS (Guacamelee!, LittleBigPlanet Karting, Modnation Racers)

Whether you’re a dog person or more of the feline persuasion, Russian Subway Dogs has you covered. Play as a range of unlockable critters with a whole pack of special guests including:

  • Question Hound from KC Green's Gunshow
  • Fidel from Fidel Dungeon Rescue
  • Nacho & Rad Shiba from VA-11 HALL-A
  • Ratcoon from Ruin of the Reckless
  • Uay Chivo from Guacamelee!
  • Nidhogg from Nidhogg 2
  • They Bleed Pixels inspired Clawed Kitty!

Simple enough for a puppy to pick up, but still packed with challenge! Run and jump along subway platforms. Bark behind people to scare up food and bounce vodka around the stage. Soon you’ll be discovering high-level strategies, such as cooking and eating rival wildlife with vodka explosions.

Travel the Moscow subway in Campaign Mode! Survive and thrive through dozens of levels and over 100 unique challenges from your feline leader, the Proletaricat and the mischievous Kittens!
Can you finish the level with a vegetarian diet? While protecting a bear? What about preventing the pigeons from cannibalizing each other? Complete enough levels and challenges and you'll discover the secret station at the end of the line!

Feeling competitive? Climb the online leaderboards in Endless Mode. Random Proletaricat mini-challenges and our special score driven difficulty algorithm keep each play through fresh!

From fire and ice, to cooking food and toxic chocolate, Russian Subway Dogs is full of simulated systems, allowing lots of freedom in how you earn points and deal with rival wildlife.
Will you eat the tasty but toxic chocolate for major points, or feed it to that pesky poodle that keeps stealing your shawarma? Drink hot sauce to gain powerful fire barks or feed it to a pigeon for some fire pooping air support?
In Russian Subway Dogs it’s up to you to use your knowledge and abilities to stuff your stomach and inflict as much mayhem as possible!

Musician Peter Chapman (Guacamelee!, LittleBigPlanet Karting, Modnation Racers) has created a banging original soundtrack packed with Slavic sounds and Baltic beats combined with electronic dance music.

IMPORTANT: This DRM-free standalone version has local only leaderboards. You'll need to run the Steam version (key included!) for online features.

MAC PLAYERS:   Best played using the itch.io app.  If downloading the zip file you may need to move the .app file to a new directory for it to run correctly due to a security quirk with GameMaker and MacOS, once it has been run once you can place the app in any directory.

The DRM Free version included here is the newest version of the game including the big 2023 Summer update! This update is not currently available for Mac on Steam due to engine compatibility issues beyond our control. For this reason you may wish to play the Itch version for the latest content and polish or the pick the Steam version for online leaderboards and achievements. Save files are not compatible between these versions.

Please enjoy our silly dog game!

Hi. I'm developing a Windows game launcher called XANA House 1, which makes it easier to play PC games in a living room, and set up controllers. This launcher includes the ability to upload your own game snapshots, however, I also want to provide a gallery of generic snapshots. May I use images from this game in that snapshot gallery?

You can see the gallery as it currently stands, with this link :

www.dioram.com/xanahouse1-gamesnapshots

Hi Phil!

Could you explain how these snapshots will be used in a bit more detail? Will they be associated with Russian Subway Dogs within the launcher in some way? The example gallery doesn't really clarify this, as all the images are small cropped, unlabeled thumbnails and seem to be generic stock images of various sorts, not game screenshots. Feel free to shoot me an email at games at spookysquid dot com if you want to discuss further. Thanks!

Hi. Yes, you're correct that the snapshots appear generic, and don't look like they contain any copyrighted content, or content that is specific to a particular game franchise - that is exactly the goal. I can't provide a catalog of snapshots for every single PC game that has ever existed, but what I can provide are snapshots that are "close enough" to the games people download.

Gotcha. Unfortunately I'm going to have to decline. A lot of time and effort went into the art for this game and we don't want the artwork to be used as generic placeholder artwork representing other games like this. I would recommend searching itch for some art asset packs and using those to construct the generic snapshots for your game launcher.

Thank you for letting me know!

When DRM-Free standalone version comes out?

(+1)

Planning to release the DRM-Free standalone versions as soon as the console ports are done and the final update to the game is finished. There have been some setbacks recently but hoping to wrap stuff up soon! Apologies for the delay!

Still waiting... Just kidding of course, but yeah... :D

(Oh, I just saw the recent update and fixes on Steam, nice!)

(+1)

Good news! I've got a stand alone build I've been testing that's looking like it's in a good place. Should be releasing later this month, assuming no major issues come up. Thanks for your patience!

Cool! :)

DRM free standalone versions are finally released!
Sorry for the wait! Took far longer than originally planned.

Can we have Linux and Mac ports too?

(+1)

Yep! A Linux port is already out. Mac port exists but is pre Catalina OS, I'm hoping to update that one once all the console ports are done and the final update is released.

(1 edit) (+1)

just make a game out of all the stereotypes why don't you

This game is sooooo cute!

(+4)

so where is the drm free version?

(+2)

It's still planned but will be released after the console versions are completed.  Expect it some time in 2020. Sorry for the delay!

(+3)

Well, it's 2022 now. Any updates on that?

(+2)

So first apologies that it has not been released yet. It's IS still in the works and planned for release after the console ports are done.  Current progress...

  • One of the three announced ports (PS Vita) has been released.
  • Stand alone leaderboard is now in a shippable state and localized, this was needed for PS Vita but will also be used for the DRM free builds.
  • Code has been ported from GMS1.4 to GMS2 (required for Mac) but still needs more testing.

Once the Xbox One and PS4 builds have shipped I'll get to work on exporting and testing the DRM free builds.  Given the difficulties I've had estimating these releases I can't say for sure when this will happen, though I'm hoping to have everything out this year.

Okay, I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

Hi there, I loved this game so much because it's pretty addictive and has a lot of animals and funny situations.
